A Reply to the Pipe Major's Review
First and foremost, I want to extend a massive "thank you" to Pipe Major Devin Adamson for taking the time to provide such a comprehensive, honest, and professional review of our Bagpipe Set. To have a piper with his experience and authority spend 11+ years playing the pipes, and then share his insights, means a lot to us. You can check out Devin's Youtube channel: @devinadamsont where you can find other videos of Devin playing breathtaking tunes on his pipes.
At Hakam Din, we don't just build instruments; we listen to the review of people who play them. Devin’s review highlighted exactly where our older models succeeded, and where they needed some refinement. We took notes and started to make adjustments in order to make the our set of pipes perfectly playable, straight out of the box. Here is how we’ve updated our pipes for the modern band piper:
The Chanter: From Concert Bb to Band Pitch (480Hz)
As Devin noted in his review, the original chanter included was a very stable and playable Concert Bb (466.16Hz), perfect for orchestral blending. But we know that modern bands need a higher pitch.
We are pleased to announce that our sets now also offer our new Band Pitch Chanter (480Hz). This new chanter is crafted from a high-density polymer, ensuring it holds its pitch in any climate and matches the volume and tone you expect from a great chanter.
The Pipe Bag: A New, Ergonomic Shape
As Devin pointed out in his review, the cut and shape of our pipe bag could have been better. Based directly on this feedback, we have completely redesigned the shape of our synthetic bags. Our updated design has better ergonomic, offering an easier experience for the piper
Drone Reeds: The Optimal Setup
While we still include a set of standard practice drone reeds (similar to what Devin received), for the most optimal, harmonic performance, I recommend pairing our pipes with Pipe Dreams Ezee Drone Reeds. These drone reeds have been tested with our pipes and I've assured that they go together perfectly.
The Bagpipe in the Video
The specific set that Devin is playing is one of our beginner models, the B-1, crafted from Indian Cocobolo Wood with Imitation Ivory Mounts and Ferrules. It is a fantastic foundation for any piper looking for professional-level projection at a fraction of the cost of our top of the line African Blackwood sets.

My Goal as a Maker
I, Hakam Din Jr., don’t just want to sell you a set of bagpipes; I want to build a brand you can trust. My mission is to provide beginner and intermediate players with maximum value, bagpipes at a fraction of the cost of Scottish makers, while still being perfect to start your learning on.
Every bit of feedback from the community helps me bridge that gap. If you currently own or have previously owned a Hakam Din bagpipe and have constructive criticism for me, I truly welcome it. You can reach me directly at my email: hdjr@hakamdin.co.uk
