This model of Baroque clarinet represents the 2nd Generation from 1740-50 by J. G. Zencker, in D, with 2 keys; original of which is in the Germanisches National Museum, Nurnberg.

This model includes 2 middle joints, one plays A=415 hz while the other to plays A=440 hz. Also included are extra barrels for A=442 hz and A=430 hz.

  • The keys are casted from brass, steel springs with best suitable leather pads.
  • It is designed to be used with a standard Bb clarinet mouthpiece. The barrel receiver is tailored for modern Bb mouthpiece, including the Vandoren B45.
  • Additionally, accessories such as a plush lined protective case, extra set of pads, cleaning cloth are provided.

Johann Sebastian Bach introduced this model to London in 1751. It has a much brighter sound, which made it refer to as a “Mock trumpet” and was used like a trumpet in pieces. Composers only wrote for it from middle C upwards.

The Baroque D clarinet was played in a variety of music: Telemann’s cantatas and instrumental works (1719–1728), Handel’s Ouverture for 2 clarinets and horn, HWV 424 (c1740–1741), Rameau’s opera Acante et Céphise (1751), and Molter’s six Concertos (1740s).
