This Chalumeau – Pocket-clarineau - Soprano in F. It uses Baroque fingering and has two, Bb and A throat keys. This instrument is a reproduction of an original chalumeau made by Stuehnwal around 1730, which is kept at the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Munich.
It plays only in its fundamental harmonic range, producing the warm, reedy tone typical of early 18th-century chalumeaux.
- Pitch: 415 Hz
- It has an A key and a speaker key for Bb. By pressing both keys together, you can play B natural.
- Keys are made of brass, with steel springs and leather pads
- Mouthpiece: Special B♭ clarinet mouthpiece; any standard B♭ clarinet reed can be used after trimming the length from the bottom of the reed.
- Included accessories: plush-lined protective case, extra set of pads, fingering chart, and cleaning cloth.
Chalumeaux of this type were popular in German and Austrian courts during the first half of the 18th century. The F chalumeau blended beautifully with recorders, oboes, and strings in chamber and orchestral music.
