This is my second set of pipes from Hakam Din, the others being smallpipes. I paid an extra $50 to have these made with Cocobolo and no black paint, they are, Just like my small pipes, absolutely beautiful. The combing and the finish are spectacular. I've heard many horror stories about Pakastani pipes over the years, unseasoned wood with cracks or a poor finish. While I did clean up the bores with sandpaper and a gun cleaning rod a little, they required nothing. To make these right, just plan on sending for ezdrones and better chanter reeds. My total expenditure here was just north of $400! The drones sound incredible! I'm waiting for my chanter reeds but found a GHB reed, pinched, works pretty darned good but loud! I bought mouthblown, just like my smallpipes. Working with both the smallpipes and borders, I've found my fingering and blowing are much improved on the GHB' s the differences help me concentrate better on the big picture. Thanks to the craftsmen at Hakam Din!
