Our traverso reproduction is based on an original Carlo Palanca flute from Turin, dating to around 1765 and associated with the collection of American flutist and scholar Michael Lynn. It represents Palanca's later development, incorporating an adjustable tuning slide in the headjoint.

Lynn’s performances and research have contributed to modern understanding of the Italian Baroque flute tradition. He performed a broad range of Baroque repertoire on this instrument, with a particular focus on Italian and pan-European works by Vivaldi, Corelli, Telemann, and J.S. Bach.

A=415 Hz - The flute is tuned to Baroque pitch with a 10 mm tuning-slide opening.

Carefully selected olive wood is well suited to conical-bore construction and can be finely polished to achieve a smooth, refined finish comparable to grenadilla or ebony. The rings are individually hand-crafted from cocobolo wood, adding a distinctive contrast and elegant appearance while giving the instrument an added sense of craftsmanship and value.

The D foot joint has a brass Eb key mounted on a hand-carved key block made directly from the wood body. The key is cast in brass and left in its original finish, fitted with a brass pin, steel spring, and leather pad.

The traverso comes complete with a case.
