Our reproduction is based on an early 18th century flute (c. 1734-1739) by Thomas Lot, Paris, preserved in the Bate Collection of Historical Instruments, regarded as among the finest and most highly prized flutes of its time, owned and played by leading musicians within royal and aristocratic circles across Europe.

Thomas Lot was one of the most important French flute makers of the mid-18th century, and his instruments were played by leading performers such as Michel Blavet and Jacques-Christophe Naudot.

This reproduction is tuned to A=415 Hz using the third of the original interchangeable corps de rechange, reflecting the higher French chamber pitch increasingly favoured during the 1730s, suited to authentic performance of French Baroque repertoire, including works by Michel Blavet, Jacques-Christophe Naudot, Michel de La Barre, and Jean-Marie Leclair, reflecting the stylistic language of the French Baroque and early Classical transition.

  • Pitch: A = 415 Hz
  • Crafted from Boxwood, Cocobolo wood or Grenadilla ebony wood.
  • Wood-ends are protected by imitation Ivory or wooden rings.
  • The key is cast in brass and features steel spring and leather pad.
  • Comes with care instructions and a fingering chart.
  • Additionally, accessories such as a velvet-lined protective case, cleaning cloth, and spare pads are included.

Also known as Flauto Traverso or Transverse Flute, you can check out others modeled after August Grenser and JJ Quantz
