Crafted following the 18th and early 19th-century construction method. Hand-carved key-blocks directly from wood body, our flute is modeled after the powerful 19th-century designs of Robert Sidney Pratten.
The Pratten design was developed to produce a strong, resonant and projecting sound. Its large bore and enlarged tone holes provide greater volume and projection, making this style of flute particularly suitable for outdoor playing, traditional sessions and folk ensembles.
Our reproduction retains the distinctive characteristics of the Pratten style, with a large bore, large tone holes and an enlarged embouchure hole. These proportions give the instrument a powerful response, excellent projection and a rich, expressive character.
Keys include: Bb - C - G# - long and short F - D# - C# and C.
- Head joint with tuning slide.
- C foot joint.
- Screwed stopper.
- Pitch: A=440 Hz
- Crafted from Cocobolo or Grenadilla (Mpingo).
- Wood ends are protected by imitation ivory rings or wooden rings.
- Brass keys with steel springs and leather pads.
- Comes with care instructions, and a guide with a fingering chart.
- Additionally, accessories such as a plush-lined protective case, cleaning cloth, and extra key pads are provided.
