Our Irish flute, keyed down to C, is modeled after the powerful 19th-century designs of Robert Sidney Pratten. The Pratten design was developed to produce a strong, resonant and projecting sound. Its large bore and enlarged tone holes provide greater volume and projection, making this style of flute particularly suitable for outdoor playing, traditional sessions and folk ensembles.
Our reproduction retains the distinctive characteristics of the Pratten style, with a large bore, large tone holes and an enlarged embouchure hole. These proportions give the instrument a powerful response, excellent projection and a rich, expressive character.
