Thomas D'Almaine's Baroque Flute - Cocobolo or Grenadilla Wood
Reproduction of D'Almaine Baroque Flute in D at A=440hz and A=415hz in Either Grenadilla or Indian Cocobolo Wood
This Flute is a reproduction of an original baroque flute made by D’Almaine & Co, London, Firm of Instrument makers working in the late 18th and early 19th Century. This particular model was known as a late version of the Baroque Flutes.
This D'Almaine Baroque Flute plays a perfect 440hz and 415hz, and comes with 2 middle joints "corps de rechange" with slightly bigger tone holes. Designed mainly for re-creation of the Victorian-era classical music or any music by Mozart, Beethoven, the Stamitz family and other composers of the 18th Century.
History:
Initially Thomas D'Almaine (c.1784-1866) and a certain Phipps joined George Goulding's already existing company in 1789 and specialised in woodwind instruments and pianos. It was given royal patronage by Prince and Princess of Wales. The company was subsequently known as Goulding, D'Almaine & Co and several other varieties. In 1847 D'Almaine retired to be succeeded by his nephew Thomas Macinklay who had joined the firm in 1840. In 1866 D'Almaine and Mackinlay died, which effectively ended the company's operations. The firm's name continued until 1934 under different patronage mostly producing pianos with the production of their excellent flutes being lost to time.
To further improve the versatility of the flute, we have incorporated a tunable headjoint, often called the "slide headjoint" or "swan neck." This addition allows flutists to finely adjust the flute's pitch by moving the headjoint, first introduced by Johann Joachim Quantz in the early 18th Century.
