Northumbrian Smallpipes - 9 Key Chanter - African Blackwood
Northumbrian Smallpipes - 9 Key Chanter - African Blackwood
The Northumbrian Smallpipes are a melodious, bellows-blown bagpipe. They are softly spoken in comparison with other bagpipes and are normally played indoors.
The chanter is made out of African Blackwood with 9 keys for extra notes and has a closed bore, enabling a staccato style of playing that gives them the unique "bubbling" sound for which they have become famous.
Northumbrian bagpipe music is written in the key of "G" although the instruments, in reality, are pitched in "F"; in other words, you play the written fingering for "G" and you get an "F".
The set listed is made of Blackwood with Nickle Fitting and imitation ivory mounts. These sets are in G (really F) which actualizes the plans made by Mike Nelson.
This Set comes complete with drones, a bag, bag cover, the chanter, bellows, and a 'practice' chanter reed although we would strongly advise anyone who purchases this set to buy the chanter and drone reeds separately from reed makers which will make sure the pipes play at the optimal performance that the producer intended to.
