Reproduction of a Vintage Henderson Bagpipe from the 1930s - 1940s Era
This instrument is a reproduction of a bagpipe made by P. Henderson around the 1930s - 1940s, one of the best known pipe makers of the 20th century whose name is synonymous with great tone.
From 1880 to 1973, the Henderson shop on Renfrew Street in Glasgow was a hub for the best pipers. Pipes have gained a reputation for quality and magical tone to this day and is generally considered one of the finest pipe makers in the history of the instrument.
Like the original, the tone of these pipes is rich and subtle. Made of Indian Cocobolo wood (Dalbergia sisso), weatherproof and low maintenance, artificially shaded black with nickel ferrules.
They were won by the well known Scottish piping figure, Pipe Major who has played them successfully in numerous solo and Grade 1 pipe band competitions with the Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band. they have also been played at many notable engagements including royal functions, Edinburgh Tattoo, Toronto Intercontinental Tattoo, etc. We acquired the bagpipes from him and were so impressed with the look and tonal qualities of the pipes that he approached us in 2015 to create a reproduction.
This set includes 2 Chanter rods, Drone rods, an airbag cover and a cable, all conveniently packaged in a carry bag.
Please note that although chanter reeds are included for optimal performance, we strongly recommend that you purchase your drone and chanter reeds from the best manufacturers.
